SharePoint 2010 Invalid Hyperlink issue after SP2 / August CU 2013

We recently run into an issue after the upgradation of our SharePoint 2010 Farm to SP2 & August CU 2013.

Just think about this scenario where you are trying to add hype link column on the page.

  • You create a site column that contains a Hyperlink with formatting and constraints for publishing field.
  • You add the site column to a SharePoint list.
  • You create a new list item in the SharePoint list.
  • You click Click to add a new hyperlink and enter a URL into the URL field in the dialog box that appears.
  • You click OK to save the URL.

And you end up this error:

Error message: “Unable to add link. There was an error in browser while setting into the page HTML, possibly due to invalid URLs or other values. Please try again use different property values”

  • On SharePoint server browse to following folder
    • C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Web Server Extensions\14\TEMPLATE\LAYOUTS\1033
    • Open the Assetpickers.js
    • Comment out this control “callbackThis.VerifyAnchorElement(HtmlElement, Config)”
  • Reset IIS
  • Repeat this on all SharePoint servers in farm.
  • Now Hyperlink will work as expected.
